Visitors In The Wilderness At Waldheim
Three simple handwritten visitors' books from Waldheim Chalet at Cradle Mountain, used between 1913 and 1952, contain 8,364 names, addresses and comments from visitors to this area over a forty-year period. In some instances there are poems, sketches and a small number of photographs. The visitors' books have been indexed and a quick glance reveals the potential interpretative value of this material. As expected there are numerous visits by well known Tasmanian photographers and mountaineers, dignitaries from interstate and a host of identified men and women representing a variety of interests. This material may inspire students of literature, tourism and history.
