Susan Ballyn

Susan Ballyn was born in Bath, England and moved to Barcelona in 1967 where she graduated in English Philology at Barcelona University. She joined the academic staff on graduation and later and did her PhD in Australian literature in 1986.

Susan is a Senior Lecturer in the English Department teaching in the areas of English Renaissance Poetry and Post Colonial Studies with a particular emphasis on Australia.

She is currently the Co-ordinator of the Australian Studies Programme at the University which involves various departments across the Humanities and Sciences and is involved in the setting up of an Australian Studies Centre which will be launched by the Barcelona University in February 2000.

Her main area of research is Australian Literature and History from which has come her interest in the Convict History of Australia and, in particular, the history of Spanish and Lusophone convicts in Australia.

Susan is editor of the Barcelona University: Australian Studies Papers and has recently published Imagining Australia: A handbook for Foreign Students with John Barnes.
