Narratives

There are over 100 extant narratives which purport to have been written by convicts transported to the Australian Colonies. Many of these have never been published or are difficult to obtain. The text of three previously unpublished first person convict narratives are reproduced here as part of the Chain Letters project:

• Jack Bushman Narrative: Passages from the Life of a "Lifer": edited and introduced by Ian Duffield

• Memoranda by Convict Davis Servant to Mr Foster, Suprint^t of Convicts, Norfolk Island - 1843 - Relating principally to Macquarie Harbour: edited and introduced by Hamish Maxwell-Stewart with a discussion regarding the identity of Davis

• The Exile's Return or Narrative of Samuel Snow Who Was Banished To Van Dieman's Land, For Participating In The Patriot War In Upper Canada In 1838: edited and introduced by Cassandra Pybus
